All right! After a good day’s labor, Mega Man finally hangs on our walls! He is in the Baby’s Room guarding those around him. I woke up the other morning, and was thinking about the cut-out of the Duck Hunt Dog. The nice thing about video game sprites is each pixel can be very easy to translate to recreate on any grid. So I decided to make one of my own. We already have a Duck Hunt light switch, and Mario Decals everywhere else, so we wanted something other than Mario. Mega-Man it is.
Again, they are very easy to create. Find a sprite, zoom in until you can see each individual pixels. Each pixel becomes an inch square (or whatever measurement you want to use). We took plywood and made an inch-wide grid on it. Using the sprite graphic, we traced out Mega-Man. An easy source for patterns and colors is Sprite Stitch. We cut the shape out using a jigsaw. Using the sprite graphic again, I marked what color each square needs to be. It ended up being a very simple “paint-by-numbers” exercise. Once that was done, I used tiny, screw-in hook things to hang it up. So that’s that!
