That Time I Made Fun of a Deaf Kid

Posted by Todd on Tuesday Feb 9, 2010 Under Miscellaneous, Todd

So I have a tendency to make jokes about people and things I probably shouldn’t. Every now and then, it comes back to bite me. My foot is not that delicious, but I eat it anyway.  In my youth and college days, I was frequently the one that would end any line of jokes. More often than not, I would say something and everyone would turn and look at me as if I had just peed on a sacred relic, then shake their heads and walk away. It’s okay, don’t pity me. I got used to it. Now I tell the jokes in my head. I wish there was a way to just stop them from coming to mind. But, hey, at least I found my filter. Right? It’s extra mentholated (Wow. Who knew “mentholated” was even a word?). The following recently came up over a dinner conversation, and I felt it important to get out there. Names have been changed to protect the innocent. I kept mine, because I’m no innocent in these matters.

A Different Time, a Different World

Posted by Todd on Tuesday Feb 2, 2010 Under Miscellaneous, Todd

In 1996, I was Freshman at International School Bangkok (ISB). I wish I could say I was one of the cool kids, but I don’t think I can… and that applied to just about everywhere I went to school. ISB did house my largest group of friends. It must have been the hat I insisted on wearing to school (it had a +9 toward attracting friends and chicks)… or the troll on my shelf (+2 against Jerks who made me cry). We had our share of shenanigans. Good shenanigans, but shenanigans nonetheless. Perhaps I will write of them here one day. Unfortunately, I know my parents silently lurk in the Interwebs, and I don’t want to cause anyone’s premature death. No, today I wish to relate one of the most intense political battles I can remember. Michael Moore (yes, that Michael Moore) once told me as we walked to the bus that he was going to make a documentary about this race and my involvement in it. He did, and it won him an Oscar. Two of them in fact.

My Poohlosophy

Posted by Todd on Thursday Jan 14, 2010 Under Miscellaneous, Todd

I have a thing about Pooh. It’s not that I think Winnie the Pooh is annoying, it’s that I think his influence on society is detrimental to progress. Winnie the Pooh, and all the characters in the 100 Acre Wood teach its followers to be lazy, indolent and disregard consequences. Industry is scorned, idleness is praised. And not the gentlemanly idleness spoken of by Tom Hodgkinson, but the insidious laziness taught by the likes of Shaggy, Ghandi and Matthew McConaughey. If you sit around long enough, things will inevitably be different. Even Cobra Commander from the popular 1980’s cartoon GI Joe had the initiative to organize hundreds, if not thousands, of people to become terrorists that fight against the American Way and Dick Cheney (He was mentioned in season 2. And he served two terms as President of Acting of the United States of America. Seriously. Read the article). If Winnie the Pooh wanted to start a new world order, he would wait until someone else did it and eat honey in the meantime. Winnie the Pooh is the reason my generation does not go out and vote. He is the reason why batteries only last for 8 hours. He is the reason why our world languishes in mediocrity and science fails to progress. If it wasn’t for Pooh, perhaps more women would be involved in Computer Science. Going through the key characters I will show you why Pooh is the second worst influence on society behind James Cameron’s Avatar– they teach us to strive for pedestrian banalities rather than true success in life, art, and relationships.

Getting All Gussied Up

Posted by Todd on Sunday Jan 10, 2010 Under Baby, Family, Pictures

We got Connor all ready for Church today. And, no, before you get all bent out of shape that we are going to post every outfit change or every bowl movement, we do not have plans to post every little thing that happens to him. Otherwise, I would be posting pictures of him crying right now. Not that he cries a lot. He just so happens to be crying right now.

Anyway, we put him in a striped button down shirt and no pants. Like Father like son. I also don’t like wearing pants. At Church, some people commented that “only Liz” would dress a newborn in a button down shirt. What?! I mean just cause we don’t dress our son in Poo(h), doesn’t mean it’s not cute. Right? More on my poohlosophy (Philosophy on Pooh) in some later post. It’s juicy. A juicy Pooh, perhaps… Anyway, check the pictures after the jump.

Backtracking a bit: Granny’s Last Day

Posted by Liz on Friday Jan 8, 2010 Under Baby, Family

I just love some of these pictures of my mom with Connor, so I wanted them on the blog.  I love to post pictures, Im not so good with the writing thing.  My mom’s visit was so nice, and it was sad to see her go.  We look forward to the other set of Grandparents to arrive next week and for Connor to be Blessed at church by his Dad.  The start of this year has for sure been all about family, and it will be sad when things start slowing down a bit.

Its a Doggy and Baby Life

Posted by Liz on Wednesday Jan 6, 2010 Under Baby, Family, The Dogs

Wesley and ConnorIt is the second day just me, the dogs, and baby.  It has been nice having quite time with Connor and figure him out.  Last night, I think Todd would agree, was the best night so far.  He had no fussy time, he only woke up because he was hungry, and then very easily fell asleep.  I think that partly has to do with the fact that yesterday he was awake for a good seven hours with no nap.  Today he has been very sleepy, so we will see what tonight brings.

We are getting very anxious for the arrival of my brothers baby Bella.  I have three people close to me who are having babies this month, I can’t wait to hear their stories and see their baby pics.  With my brother and his family moving here the end of January, it means that Granny gets to see us again very soon.  I am very excited for my brother, Aubrey, and baby Bella to move out here.  It will be nice to have more family, and I think my brother is very excited to be close to some of his family.

Halloween Decorations

Posted by Liz on Monday Oct 5, 2009 Under Family, Yard

She Saved the World... A Lot.I decided to have a “Martha Stewart” Halloween this year. My friend Jeanne has some patterns for Halloween cats, and we also wanted to put some tombestones up. This is really a fun holiday to make silly thngs, and of course what is halloween without honoring THE BEST vampire show ever created???

Our Buffy tombstone reads: Buffy Anne Summers / 1981-2001 / She Saved the World… A Lot. Of course, everyone recognizes that tombstone and inscription from the fifth season finale. If you don’t recognize this, maybe you have your own tombstone.

The other two tombstones refer to the first big bad. Count Dracula’s lists each year he has allegedly been killed.

The Baby’s Room

Posted by Todd on Sunday Sep 13, 2009 Under Baby, Baby's Room, Family, House

We finished renovating the Baby’s Room last week. We resurfaced all the walls, redid the electrical (knob and tube wires are not the safest), installed new lights, laid a floor and painted everything. It only took us six months. My excuse is that it is hard to work on stuff when everyone has other jobs. Again, we owe a huge amount of thanks to our awesome neighbor who continues to teach me how to actually do the stuff we do. He also lets us borrow his tools. And additional thanks goes out to Doug who has let us use his nail gun for almost a year now. It has been great for installing base boards and the pigeon problem. Follow the jump for before and after shots!

Surprise! We’re Back with an Explanation and the Reveal

Posted by Todd on Sunday Sep 13, 2009 Under Baby, Family, Pregnancy

LittleConnorOkay, so right after I asked everybody what gender they thought the baby was, I updated WordPress. It caused me to lock myself out of the admin section for about a month and a half while I did troubleshooting on the side. In the meantime, here’s the answer if you haven’t heard it already: We’re having a boy!

He made the presence of his manhood very clear during our visit. We pointed it out and stammered, “Is that his–” The answer was, “Yes, that is his [for the sake of not attracting bizarre webtraffic, I'm not going to name the member here].” It was a great experience. Since then, he has steadily grown and we can now see Liz’s belly move when he moves and kicks. Very exciting. I will endeavor to keep everyone posted.
